If you have been looking for a high quality successful bear
hunt you need not look any further.
Here at Loon Lodge we offer the best bear hunts in the business,
we make every effort to make your hunt both SUCCESSFUL and
ENJOYABLE. Our business is to get you your chance at a bear,
because when it comes right down to it, YOU are our best
advertisement.
The Allagash Lake Region is rich in bear habitat, mile after
mile of roadless remote forests, miles from any towns or
developments. We are the only guide and outfitter authorized
to use this remote region. Because we have this control,
we can manage the bear hunting to provide excellent hunting
year afte r
year. We have set aside our core area and do not even offer
any hunting within nine miles of our lodge. This is what
we call our bear preserve. Outside of that area we have
over 300 square miles of area to run our bear hunts in.
We rotate stands each week so that we do not over harvest
any one area. Each week our hunters are guaranteed a fresh
stand to hunt from that no other hunter has used whether
you come the first week or the last. To assure our hunters
a great hunt we have also set up numerous backup stands
as a standby.
Another policy here at Loon Lodge is the limited amount
of hunters that we will take in a season. We are not in,
what I like to call, the assembly line business of hunting.
Because of this we have to turn away many hunters but that
is just what makes our hunts so successful.
Our area also has a lot to do with the success of our hunts.
Vast areas of unbroken forests, big beech ridges, large
cuts full of rasberries and blueberries and dark swampy
bogs. There are no paved roads, power lines or developments
to disturb the bears movement or habits. All this makes
for the best bear habitat the state has to offer.
Baiting is another important factor in our success. Not
so much as of what we are using but the amounts that we
use. In an average season we will use between 40,000 to
50,000 pounds of bait. Our stands are baited 30 days before
the season (the maximum the state allows) and baited on
a regular basis to keep the bears coming. Many of our hunters
don't just tell us about the bear they saw but the number
of bears they have seen.
If all of this hasn't convinced you yet to plan your next bear hunt with us
then check out the success rates for the last seven years seasons: 2000/ 45 hunters took 40 bears, 2001/ 36 hunters took 33 bears, 2002/ 45 hunters took 45 bears (100%), 2003/ 48 hunters took 36 bears, 2004/ 55 hunters took 48 bears, 2005/ 42 hunters took 30 bears, 2006/ 46 hunters took 37 bears and in 2007/49 hunters took 38 bears (including our new camp record of 524 pounds).
